Rosh HaShana starts this Tuesday night which means that apart from the beginning of the new Jewish year, in Israel it also the height of “אחרי החגים” (Acharei HaChagim – “After the Holidays”) season. If you need anything done within the next few weeks – forget it.
Whenever you ask someone when something you want will get done, the answer is always the same – Acharei HaChagim. This goes on for about a month until the answer goes back to the same old “זה בטיפול” (Zeh B’Tipul – “It’s being taken care of”). In other words, “leave me alone, I don’t want to help you”.
Acharei HaChagim means that the odds of something hapening are, well, if you’re feeling lucky – go buy a lottery ticket. Apparently Bill Clinton has decided Israelis are onto something and has declared that he will go campaign for Barack Obama – “after the Jewish holidays“. This, according to him, out of respect for the holidays in order to win the Jewish vote in Florida.
The holidays this year end less than two weeks before election day…
